Leadership

It’s a shameless plug, but someone has to do it.  This Saturday, the Florida Bicycle Association and the Florida Freewheelers will host the 2014 Florida Bicycle Club Leadership Workshop from 3pm – 6pm at the Fairfield Inn & Suites, 1750 Hunt Trace Blvd. in Clermont.

Held in conjunction with the Florida Freewheelers’ 35th Annual Horrible Hundred, this workshop is not just for bike club presidents, but anyone in a leadership position that wants to share ideas with other club leaders. This event is FREE, however, registration for the Florida Bicycle Club Leadership Workshop is required.

The workshop will include the following guest speakers:

Mark Atkins – President, North Florida Bicycle Club DSCN1528

Dr. Mark Atkins retired from his Pulmonology and Critical Care Medicine practice in 2011, giving himself more time to ride his Trek road bike. He moved from New Jersey to Ponte Vedra Beach in 2012 and joined the North Florida Bicycle Club to learn about group riding prior to attending RAGBRAI with a college friend. Mark served as the NFBC Ride Director in 2013 and became club President in 2014. Mark is nearing 6,000 miles for the year on his new Cerevelo road bike.

 

 

Dr. Amit Varma – Sports Specialized Board Certified Orthopedic Surgeon Dr_Amit_Varma_300px

Dr. Varma is a double board certified and double sports fellowship trained Orthopedic Surgeon and has been living and practicing in Clermont and Central Florida since 2008. He trained in one of his sports fellowship under world renowned surgeon Dr. James Andrews. Dr. Varma is excited to announce the opening of “Florida Sports Injury” Institute.

 

 

Keri Caffrey – Executive Director, American Bicycling Education Association; Co-Founder CyclingSavvy Keri_photo

Keri Caffrey is a technical illustrator and graphic designer with 20 years of urban cycling experience and a passion for teaching. Along with Metroplan Orlando Smart Growth Coordinator, Mighk Wilson, Keri co-developed the innovative CyclingSavvy traffic cycling curriculum. CyclingSavvy teaches vital behaviors that empower bicyclists to travel anywhere safely, easily and without fear. Wilson and Caffrey studied strategies for influencing belief and behavior change and incorporated proven methodologies into CyclingSavvy. The curriculum is designed to interrupt the motor-culture beliefs which have made those vital behaviors counterintuitive.

 

Karl Riecken – Coordinator of Performance Testing, National Training Center/LiveWell Campus 3e4c5939bc940a7e9d9a55.L._V395969913_SX200_

Karl Riecken is Coordinator of Performance Testing at the National Training Center in Clermont, FL where he oversees the Human Performance Lab. At the NTC, Karl works with each of the sports teams, including serving as the biomechanics consultant for the PURE Athletics team of international track and field competitors. Services at the Human Performance Lab include metabolic testing, biomechanics analysis, nutrition consultation, coaching, and sport-specific training. Karl also works closely with the NTC’s team of physical therapists to provide seamless integration of return-to-sport rehabilitation programs for top-level competitors in swimming, triathlon, Olympic weightlifting, and track and field through movement screening, testing, and exercise prescription. Before coming to the NTC, Karl worked for the National Team departments of both USA Swimming and USA Triathlon where he worked alongside many of the best coaches and athletes in the world at the US Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, CO.
