Bike Share
I remember when Eric Trull made the rounds in Tampa Bay, attending county Bicycle/Pedestrian Advisory Committee meetings and talking up the Coast Bike Share program. It wasn’t two weeks ago, more like two years. That’s right, good things can happen to those who wait and even better things can happen for those with persistence to keep at their dream to make it come true.
I favor news from Tampa Bay because this is where I live; when I say I’m a native Floridian, I’m talking native to the Tampa Bay area. I was born on the Pinellas County side but am no stranger to Hillsborough County, and I’m not going to apologize for talking up Tampa Bay when good things, especially good bicycle things, are happening in this area. I can’t say it’s perfect, but I personally feel we need to celebrate the good things whenever we can and the launch of the Coast Bike Share program in Tampa is one of those occasions.
Again, notice the smiles. This is good stuff. This is more bicycles on Tampa streets and the opportunity for more people to ride. YEA!
Speaking of opportunity, I can’t pass up photo ops with ThunderBug, who also rode this past Sunday.
What really made the event, for me anyway, was hooking up with folks unfamiliar with the Florida Bicycle Association and letting them know there is an organization that cares about cyclists and cycling not only in Tampa, but for the great state of Florida. It was also great fun to catch up with new FBA members Grace Stewart and Jenine Morehouse, gals who enjoy a good ride and the good friends you can make on those rides.
Congratulations to Eric and the Coast Bike Share team for a delightful launch party at Water Works Park in downtown Tampa. We had fun, bicycle fun, and that’s always a good thing.
If you live in the Tampa Bay area or plan to visit and wish to rent a bicycle to tour around downtown Tampa, visit the Coast Bike Share website. Rumor has it, St. Petersburg may be next for bike share!
Of course, if you wish to spread the joy of bicycling and have a good story to tell, please consider being a guest blogger. Send an email to Becky@floridabicycle.net for details.
