Action Alert – Is Tallahassee Listening?

From Rails-to-Trails Conservancy:

As the budget process moves forward in the State Capitol, will legislators in Tallahassee listen to what voters want—and fund programs to expand and protect trails, open spaces and our natural heritage?

Take Action

Take action now: Urge your state legislators to heed the call of Floridians and fully fund programs to protect, preserve and expand our state’s trails and natural places.

Pieces of the puzzle are falling into place—a Senate proposal would budget a little over $50 million for trail projects at the Department of Transportation (FDOT) this year. But so far, the House has not agreed to this proposal.

In addition, each chamber has so far refused to fully and seriously fund Florida Forever—the main conservation trust that benefits trails and open spaces— despite the fact that nearly 4.1 million voters voiced support for this funding by passing Amendment 1 last November.

Sen. Thad Altman has introduced a promising amendment to fund Florida Forever, but there has been no such action in the House.

Please urge your state senator and representative to listen to Florida voters and fully fund trails and conservation programs to protect our state’s natural heritage.

Last November, Floridians overwhelmingly spoke out for trails, open spaces and natural areas. Trails have strong support, now we need to encourage our leaders to take advantage of this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

Please take action today.

Sincerely,

Ken Bryan
