Bike Month and Beyond

The League of American Bicyclists recently sent an e-newsletter to their membership.  In this e-newsletter, LAB president Andy Clarke states,

“Even with five days to go, I think we can declare National Bike Month a huge success in 2015 — so much media coverage, so many amazing rides, events, and activities; thank you all so much for making it happen. And as my colleague Bill Nesper explained on bikeleagueTV, now is the time to take advantage of the energy, enthusiasm and commitments you heard during the month.”

Florida continues to celebrate National Bike Month with a few events scheduled in Tampa Bay and Key West to close out the final weekend.  Looking back, May in Florida has had its share of amazing rides, events and activities:

Sure, May is coming to an end, but summer fun is just around the corner.  Our state legislators will conduct a special session on June 1st that includes SB 7054, a key piece of legislation for SunTrail.  Help create your future fun by contacting your Senator and House Representative in support of SB 7054.  Seriously, make the effort.

City of Temple Terrace Community Development Director Charles Stephenson put “effort” in perspective quite nicely in a recent thank-you letter to Cyclovia volunteers and sponsors,

“Cost and effort of organizing CYCLOVIA…Plenty

Cost of having engaged sponsors, staff and community….Priceless”

Colin Powell is quoted as saying, “A dream doesn’t become reality through magic; it takes sweat, determination and hard work.”

We all want things, and sometimes it’s just a matter of asking and most times, legislators won’t know what you want until you ask.  It takes effort, but you have to make the ask – ask for their support of SB 7054.  And while we are asking for things, let’s not forget to take the effort to be the role models of good bicycling.  One final quote to think about:

Good actions give strength to ourselves and inspire good actions in others.― Plato

Thank you for all you do as members of Florida Bicycle Association to inspire good actions and good bicycling.  Not a member?  You can change that here.

Ride Big.  Ride Right.  Ride On!
