‘Tis the season

We have a day for giving thanks. We have two for getting deals. Now, we have #GivingTuesday, a global day dedicated to giving back. On Tuesday, December 1, 2015, charities, families, businesses, community centers, and students around the world will come together for one common purpose: to celebrate generosity and to give.

It’s a simple idea. Just find a way for your family, your community, your company or your organization to come together to give something more. Then tell everyone you can about how you are giving. Join us and be a part of a global celebration of a new tradition of generosity.  – from the GivingTuesday.org website

I remember a year ago posting on Giving Tuesday and this year, I’m going to post two weeks ahead to suggest something that was brought to my attention yesterday: has anyone thought about donating their gas money to charity?

The concept is quite simple.  Calculate the cost of gas for a trip.  There are several fuel calculators available online, including this one from Calculator.net.  Now that you know what the trip costs in gas, let’s say you use a bicycle for that trip and save the gas money.  This is what you can donate to a charity of your choosing; the money you didn’t spend on gas.

For example, I average 1,500 miles of local miles and choose to use my bicycle instead of an automobile.  Using the average miles per gallon of my Honda Element, which is 21, and the average cost of a gallon of regular gasoline for this market, $2.21, the total for gas money comes to $160.00.

Thanks to my bicycle and the efforts of the Florida Bicycle Association to make bicycling in Florida safe, respected and encouraged as a means of transportation and recreation, I saved $160 and will give this back to Florida Bicycle Association in two weeks.

Give Giving Tuesday a try and give back on December 1st.  Donating gas money to charity is as easy as FBA.

Bike Florida and Florida Bicycle Association share a common cause in bicycle education for residents and visitors to the Sunshine “Bike-Ped” State.  Share the Road license plate proceeds benefit Bike Florida and Florida Bicycle Association to further these bicycle educational efforts.  What’s on your motor vehicle?  Get the Share the Road license plate!

Did you know Rejjee is the only nation-wide multi-product registry and crowd sourced Lost & Found that includes discount product replacement offers on bicycles?  Rejjee also supports Florida Bicycle Association and FBA supports Rejjee.
