Bike Florida’s Share the Road Challenge Grant

Today we welcome a special notice from our friends at Bike Florida and Executive Director Ron Cunningham:

Less than one month until the $25,000 Share The Road Challenge Grant application deadline

If you are a Florida city or county government, school district or a non-profit cycling advocacy organization that wishes to promote cycling as a safe and efficient form of transportation in your community, you should consider applying for Bike Florida’s Share The Road Challenge Grant.  But better hurry. The application deadline is Jan. 21, 2016.

Our $25,000 Share The Road Challenge Grant is intended to encourage innovative ideas to facilitate and promote safe and enjoyable bicycling at the community level. Proposals may include design improvements (bike lanes, bike boxes, etc.) bicycle education initiatives, public awareness programs, new approaches to bicycle safety education and enforcement.

This is a matching grant program, so applicants should be prepared to offer up to $25,000 (some in-kind services and contributions will be allowed) in local funding in order to qualify.

The whole idea behind our Share The Road Challenge Grant is to encourage innovative ideas to promote bicycling as a safe and efficient form of mainstream transportation. We are encouraging applicants to come to us with their best ideas. Ideally, we would like to consider model proposals or pilot programs that can be tracked, measured and ultimately recommended for adoption by other Florida communities.

“Historically, Bike Florida has offered mini-grants of $2,000 or less to help fund small-scale, incremental cycling improvements,” said Ron Cunningham, Executive Director of Bike Florida. “Our Share The Road Challenge Grant represents a new level of commitment to bicycle safety and education on Bike Florida’s part.”

For further questions contact Ron Cunningham at 352-262-5798 or at ron@bikeflorida.org.

Editor’s note:  Bike Florida and Florida Bicycle Association share a common cause in bicycle education for residents and visitors to the Sunshine “Bike-Ped” State.  Share the Road license plate proceeds benefit Bike Florida and Florida Bicycle Association to further these bicycle educational efforts.  What’s on your motor vehicle?  Get the Share the Road license plate!
