West Orange Cycle

If you’re looking for a way to spend the weekend after the Super Bowl next year, I highly recommend what I’m calling the West Orange Cycle weekend.  It’s a sale, it’s a trail and best of all, it’s all bicycle.

Orange Cycle of Orlando (College Park area) hosts an annual Garage Sale on the Saturday after Super Bowl.  This past Saturday marked the 23rd year of what could be the largest bicycle swap in Florida.

23rd Annual Orange Cycle Garage Sale

The sale in full swing at Orange Cycle.

There is just about everything you can imagine bicycle, from the newest toys to vintage frames and parts.  It’s four hours (8am – 12pm) of gawking, talking, wheeling and dealing, literally.  So what happens after the sale?

Well, if you leave yourself enough time, or if you come up to the Orlando area the night before like I did (vendor set up is 6AM), there’s a trail called West Orange worth checking out.

West Orange Trail Apopka Station

Starting the ride from the Apopka Station.

I rode from the Apopka station to the Chapin station and barely recognized anything from when the last time I rode this section over 10 years ago.  The big difference from then to now is that it seemed easier to ride and there was more tree canopy.  I love tree canopy.

This fence line I remembered.

West Orange Chapin Station

Does anyone know the significance of this station’s name?

Just another beautiful day on a beautiful trail.

The Super Bowl marks the end of the pro football season.  Yes, I’m a football fan, both pro and college, and I’m usually a little sad at the end of football season.  That sadness vanished after having a great time during the West Orange Cycle weekend.  I can’t wait until next year!
