Who Will Win?

It could be you – read on:

Many of us have a bit of a competitive spirit. Remember when we went to stadiums to see if we could cheer louder than the opposing fans? When we competed in local biking or running events without social distancing? How about that race to the top of the leaderboard during a packed spin class?

We love those contests for a reason. And while we must curb many of our favorite activities for now, we can still find other ways to meet the need that competition fulfills.

The thing is that a little competition can be positive in our lives. It can improve productivity and performance, increase motivation and make us more accountable. In fact, competition may be at the core of the survival of the human species, driving both our biological and psychological evolution. Competition activates the reward system of the brain, releases feel-good hormones and stimulates feelings of joy and positive energy. And we could all use a bit more of that these days.

Need competition and fun? Sign up for a free statewide bicycling challenge for new and experienced riders.

The upcoming Love to Ride Florida challenge offers a free, healthy way to compete for fun and for prizes while also isolating to any extent desired. People who ride bicycles and people who are new to cycling are signing up now for the challenge, which begins a week from Friday (October 30) and runs through the end of November. Prizes are awarded to individual riders and to organizations for their participation. The first prize? A new bicycle (up to a $500 value) is being raffled off to early-bird registrants who sign up before Oct. 30.

Register yourself AND your workplace…  and invite your friends and colleagues!

The Love to Ride Florida challenge launches with the Florida Department of Transportation’s annual Mobility Week, a statewide celebration of making smart, efficient, and safe transportation choices. What better way to celebrate those choices than with a little competition that benefits you? That’s right! YOU may win first prize; but only if you enter.
