From Bicycle Month to Bike Month
I have had a great time this April reliving my March/Florida Bicycle Month as I gear up for May/National Bike Month. During the last week of March, I was able to attend the Adrenaline Bike Works (ABW) Spring Event. If you live in Mount Dora area, this bicycle shop is like none other I have ever seen and I highly recommend checking it out.
While at the event, I was able to share space outside with Southern Off-Road Bicycle Association (SORBA) Orlando and present Sue Van Bernum, SORBA Orlando president, our 2020 Citizen Advocate of the Year award.
After the presentation, about 40 cyclists went on a short family ride for ice cream. Of course, the children were first in line for ice cream, but eventually, adults were allowed to enjoy the tasty treats.
The next day after this event, I met up with Tina Russo and Kasey Cursey to look over the construction of the new Ridge Road exit off the Suncoast Parkway and to check out the corridor for the future Orange Belt shared-use path off the trail and just north of S.R. 54.
The grand finale of Florida Bicycle Month, for me anyway, was to log more miles to the Bike/Walk Tampa Bay (BWTB) Love to Ride challenge, doing so with a ride on the Courtney Campbell Causeway Trail.
BTW – for the BWTB March challenge, the Florida Bicycle Association came in first in its organization category. FBA is entered yet again for the BWTB Love to Ride Bike Month challenge this May. Oh boy! More riding to come!!
May – National Bike Month starts this Friday! Check out the League of American Bicyclists National Bike Month webpage for ideas on how to celebrate. If you are in the Tampa Bay area, register for the BWTB Love to Ride challenge, and tell them Becky sent you.
