Fun is just around the corner

Let’s face it, if you are a fan of MLB, NFL and NHL, like myself, October is a busy month.  However, if you are a cyclist in Florida, October is the month to Get Rolling!  The Florida Department of Transportation’s Mobility Week kicks off on October 29 and leads right into the November Love to Ride Florida Challenge.  The FUN is just around the corner!

Mobility Week is a celebration of making smart, efficient, and safe multimodal transportation choices. During Mobility Week, cities, counties, and transportation partner agencies host events to promote transportation choices, highlight transportation achievements, and roll out new initiatives or policies.  Make your plans now – Check out the statewide schedule of events!

Not an event so much as a weekly bicycle ride to the post office.

Love to Ride Florida Challenge:  Last year, more than 2,000 Floridians and 174 organizations rode over 200,000 miles! This year’s Love to Ride Florida Challenge kicks-off on October 29, the first day of Mobility Week. The Love to Ride Florida Challenge encourages riders to pedal on throughout the month of November to earn points and qualify for prizes.

FBA is no stranger to Love to Ride; it’s practically the executive director’s motto.  Oh yes, I love to ride, allow me to demonstrate:

Seminole Wekiva

Traveling to the Orlando area? Check out the Seminole Wekiva Trail – I did.

A local favorite, the Courtney Campbell Causeway Trail, I can loop route to it from Oldsmar.

Missing Gnome

Best way to find, or not find, the City of Oldsmar Gnomes – by bike.

Found a nice, quiet place in Arcadia.

Temple Terrace

Had a great time with cycling friends riding the Temple Terrace History Tour.

Not sure if the Love to Ride Challenge is for you?  Seriously?  Of course it is!  In fact, you can check out a 30-minute webinar on Love to Ride this Friday at noon – register here.

Of course, if you know this challenge is for you (and it is, trust me), then be sure to register NOW and don’t be shy about mentioning Becky Afonso as your encourager; it’s practically my job to encourage cycling!  Who knows?  Maybe your Love to Ride photos will be featured in the next blog.

Happy Cycling because we Love to Ride!
