Carrying the Safety Baton for Florida Bike Month

Welcome March!  Welcome Florida Bike Month!

It’s true, Governor Rick Scott signed the proclamation, our 2016 Annual Award recipients have been announced and events are scheduled across the state.  How will you celebrate Florida Bike Month?

Florida Bicycle Association will spend this March in a unique way as the Alert Today Florida Safety Baton holder.

Safety baton and water bottle fit nicely on the bicycle rack.

The Safety Baton represents the Alert Today Florida focused initiative to drive down traffic fatalities.  Florida Bicycle Association will carry this baton throughout the month of March.  Every appearance and occasion will serve to remind everyone of the importance of bicycle and pedestrian transportation safety.

The first stop took place today in Tallahassee as FBA and the baton attended the Florida Department of Transportation Bicycle and Pedestrian Partnership Council meeting.

This first week of Florida Bike Month will be busy with a bicycle ride outside of Live Oak to ground-truth an FDOT rumble stripe treatment, an appearance on Polk Government Television and a trip to Washington, D.C., to attend the League of American Bicyclists National Bike Summit.

I actually rode the Dahon to the meeting today, not from Oldsmar, but from the motel.

Suffice to say, the Dahon was parked at the bicycle rack during the meeting.

The post meeting ride was spent at Cascade Park.  What a start to Florida Bike Month!  Follow FBA and the Alert Today Florida Safety Baton on our Facebook page!

Keep it safe and enjoy Florida Bike Month!
